WAYANG JOGJA NIGHT CARNIVAL
The Wayang Jogja Night Carnival (WJNC) is an annual event to celebrate Yogyakarta City’s anniversary every year on October 7th and has been regularly held since its inception in 2016.Featuring a street carnival concept, this performance involves choreography, contemporary fashion, music, and lighting effects, and showcases themes from traditional Javanese shadow puppet stories (wayang), with participants from groups of artist of 14 sub-districts in Yogyakarta City.
Over time, the carnival concept has evolved into street art, while still retaining the core elements such as the Yogyakarta Monument (Tugu Jogja), decorated vehicles, and wayang performances, all held at night.
